Data Protection Letter:-

These types of letters are sent by companies who identify a possible fine of £5000 if you do not register with the Data Protection Commissioner and this underlying threat hassles the prospective customer into enlisting the service offered by the, in this case, 'Data Protection Corporation'.  Their service is £95.

What is neglected to be mentioned in the handouts/documentation, is that not everyone has to register and if you have to register you can do this for yourself over the telephone to the Data Protection Commissioner at a cost of £35 per annum.

Companies like the 'Data Protection Agency', send block applications of around 500 to the commissioner who sends the registration certificates back for onward posting by that agency to the applying customers.  Of course the annual renewal claims also get sent to the agency who then contact the customers for a further £95.  Another profit of £60 each time.

In effect their actions are borderline and the advice is to contact the Commissioner in Cheshire tel. 01625 545700 and see if there is a necessity for you to be registered in the first instance.  If there is then register direct and save some money.
