Cybercrime Lockdown: Securing Organisations against the Online Threat.

Use of internet technology in the UK continues to grow, with e-commerce and m-commerce increasing at a high rate. As of 2013, the estimated spend of the UK online was £91 billion, with 74% of the adult population buying goods and services online17. The G20 has stated that the UK is the most cyberdependent economy in the G20 nations. This growth has led to a rise in the threat to the UK from cyber crime. [National Crime Agency 2015].

Yet, as the 2016 PwC Economic Crime survey reports, cybercrime is rising to one of the most reported crimes at a time when most companies are still not adequately prepared for – or even understand – the risks faced. Less than half have a cyber incident response plan and less than half of board members request information about their organisation’s state of cyber-readiness.

Based firmly in the government’s organisational Information risk management regime for cyber security, the purpose of this conference is simple and robust; to ensure that every North-east company is aware of the threats and understands the practical solutions to protect their business financially and reputationally.

To achieve this, the NEFF and NERSOU have partnered to offer a free conference, available to all NEFF members, North-east businesses and public sector organisations.

The conference will look at the CESG guidance on how to implement the 10 steps to cyber security and how to secure your supply chain. It will feature case studies from north-east companies and organisations.

It will showcase organisations and equipment providing the latest technology and advice available to combat cybercrime.

Conference speakers include representatives from law enforcement, CERT, north-east companies and cybersecurity professionals.
